Airbus A380 Debut Landing at LAX

I watched it live on KLTA this morning on the historic landing of Airbus A380 at LAX. It was just a test flight with no passengers in the airplane. This plane only carried the pilots and technicians.

The first massive Airbus A380 with a wingspan of almost the length of a football field (~261feet)landed at LAX at exactly 930am on 3/19/2007. The landing has been scheduled to coincide with the first A380 landing at New York JFK International Airport, which carried 550 people which includes 4 pilots, Airbus and Lufthansa crew members, employees and along with some reporters. Initially, Airbus only planned to send the A380 to NY JFK International Airport but LA officials protested and only three weeks ago Airbus decided to send another one this way to be landed at the same day and same time. In actual, the aircraft arrived in NY JFK International Airport 15 minutes earlier than in LAX.

This will be the world's largest commercial airliner in the coming years. According to KTLA website, LAX has spent approximately 49 millions on improving its runaway, taxiways and boarding gate to accommodate this super jumbo double decker aircraft. More improvement will be scheduled in the coming years.
